The fluidized bed roaster (commonly called boiling furnace) utilizes solid fluidization technology for efficient roasting of sulfide ores and similar materials. The furnace features a steel shell construction with insulation and refractory brick lining.
Hot air injection through wind cap orifices creates fluidized material movement (similar to boiling water), enabling efficient roasting. Sulfide ore reactions generate heat, sulfur dioxide gas (for sulfuric acid production), and usable metallurgical slag.
Requires dust control for furnace gas and significant blower power consumption.
Widely implemented in sulfuric acid production and nonferrous metal smelting for processing pyrite and flotation concentrates.
